Once she was his compass
Guiding him along the path.
Now he was lost.
He had a vision.
She had the stability.
He had the craziness.
She had serenity.
He wanted to love
but knew not how.
She knew how to love
and showed him the way.
They were bound.
Their fate was sealed.
No other outcomes possible.
They hurtled forward.
He hunted.
She farmed.
They walked the path together.
At a fork in the road,
He thought he saw a rabbit
and chased after it.
She stood in disbelief.
They both became lost.
Traveling another road,
He searched for his way.
He saw something troubling
and left the road.
He ran,
and ran
and ran until he stood alone,
lost amongst the deepest forest.
Drowned by the silence,
He remembered his compass
and reached for it,
Only to have it slip through his grasp.
He shriveled up
and hid beneath the forrest floor.
Upon waking again,
He found himself by the road
Which he had left so long ago.
Looking to the heavens
The North became true.
His destination was clearly ahead.
He was happy.
She was not to be found.
He traveled onward.
Till one day the empty road
Begat a horrifying thought.
Where will we meet again?
How long could it take?
Though he could see clearly,
Though he knew the way,
He needed his compass.
It gave him comfort.
It made him happy.
With her by his side,
The final reward could be shared
and life would be full.
So he threw his love to the wind,
and stopped on the road to wait.
He expected nothing
and hoped for everything.
He cried
and he knew.
He should never have taken
The fork in the road.
After many nights,
He heard a noise from up ahead.
His anticipation surged,
His heart stopped
and his head swelled with new found joy.
He knew she was near.
Yet he could not find her.
So he sat down to wait,
and he prayed a simple prayer.
Please lord,
Forgive my stupidity.
Give me strength.
Give me understanding.
Give me patience.
and most of all
help us find our way together.
Many years went by.
He tired of waiting.
Yet he knew she was there.
he knew he was here,
and they would be together.
She must know this too.
One day,
With fog rolling across the land,
he realized she would not come,
and he chased another rabbit.
He could wait no more.
He must move on,
he must find new love.
So he did.
She was not she,
They were not they,
But he was he.
The road was the road,
the path was a journey.
The journey requires movement,
waiting moved him nowhere.
This he now knew.
The compass is within -
follow it and be true.
Love is everywhere
waiting to be found.
The greatest source untapped,
remained hidden within him.
He journeyed there to find her,
he found himself.
He came to realize,
that whatever he did,
He had to enjoy the journey,
and enjoy the passing of time
and enjoy the love within
so that he would never be without.
He lived his life,
and he was happy
knowing that they would be they,
when he was he
and she was she
as it shall be.
He, she, they -
one together
and alone.
